Mission Statement
The mission of the Trinity Lutheran Lydia Circle is spiritual growth through Bible study, devotions, and Christian service to help spread and live in God's Word.
Projects that we are working on:
*1st Wednesday morning of most months
Quilting is an ongoing project, and the finished quilts are shared with those in need around the world.
Lydia Circle collects hats, scarves, and warm coats for the homeless and Orphan Grain Train. Place gently used clothing donations in the basket in the Narthex or contact a Lydia Circle member for pick-up. Hand knitted and crocheted items for warmth are accepted as well.
Knit or crocheted blankets donated to families who have experienced loss of a child through miscarriage. You can find more information, including patterns, here.
Gently used clothing is collected to send overseas or wherever needed through Orphan Grain Train. You may leave your clothing donations in the plastic tub in the Narthex; or you can take them to the Orphan Grain Train location in Ida Grove on Tuesday mornings while they are open.
Lydia Circle has been making fleece tied blankets for both children and adults in need. Fleece material has been purchased with Thrivent Action Team funds that are available to policy holders of Thrivent. These blankets are very easy to make and there is no sewing required. Instructions can be found here.
Sleeping mats are given to Orphan Grain Train to send overseas to the less fortunate who have no beds and sleep on dirt floors. These mats are made with plastic grocery bags cut into strips and crocheted to make the mats. These provide not only warmth but also a dry place to sleep; and being made from recycled plastic bags makes them sturdy and durable to withstand the harshness of the environment where they are used. You can find instructions to make a sleeping mat here. If you choose to make one it can be dropped off at the church and delivered to the Orphan Grain Train.
Hygiene Kits
School Kits
These finger puppets are used in the mission field when delivering used eyeglasses, clothing, medical supplies, etc. by explaining the Gospel message to those who do not know about Jesus and His saving grace. Anyone that can crochet can make these and they are VERY easy. The need is great for these. The pattern can be found here. If you choose to make these, you may drop them off at the church to be mailed.
These are needed for the used eyeglasses that are being sent to those who cannot afford corrective glasses. Due to the cost of shipping hard cases cannot be sent. Here is a pattern to make soft cases. You may also donate any extra soft cases that you may have and could share.
Tote bags are used by volunteers and missionaries. If you are interested in this project you will find instructions here.
Pocket Prayer Cloths can be shared with someone to remind them that they are being remembered in prayers at times of grief, sickness, etc. To find this quick crochet project look here.
